About Saraswati Samman
The Saraswati Samman is one of India's most prestigious literary awards, instituted in 1991 by the K. K. Birla Foundation. It annually recognizes outstanding prose or poetry published in any of the 22 languages listed in Schedule VIII of the Indian Constitution.
History of Saraswati Samman
The first Saraswati Samman in 1991 was awarded to the legendary Hindi poet and writer Harivansh Rai Bachchan for his monumental four-volume autobiography (Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Needa Ka Nirman Phir, Basere Se Door, and Dashdwar Se Sopan Tak). Over the decades, it has recognized brilliant literary minds across a wide spectrum of Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Sindhi, and Konkani.
